Yo,
So my Econ exam went wonderfully, thank you for asking. I guess my tub of ice cream is going back in the freezer till next week.
In other news, Mizzou is on a roll in this attempt to push diversity and internationalism. Not to confuse you, this blog won't be entirely dedicated to being different and accepted but since today seems to be diversify-Mizzou day, I'm going to update you.
Memorial Union (Starbucks headquarters to those who don't know Mizzou) was holding an event called The Hate Wall. At this event, everyone builds a wall of all the stereotypes and hateful words directed toward groups at Mizzou and then we all tear it down. It really is all about symbolism sometimes.
That is the Hate Wall. The people up front are doing some Dr.Phil group therapy in an attempt to counter the issues on the Hate Wall. What is on the Hate Wall you may ask?
- White trash
- Black
- Military brat (though this person may have been lost...)
- Facism (not really sure in which sense)
- Slavery
Do you see a pattern? I do.
Does MU?

I remember this was an activity done with children to get them used to being around "different" people. I'm surprised this still has to be done with college students.
ReplyDeleteRandom side note: why blogspot and not tumblr?
Did you do this in AIS in grade school? I remember doing activities like it but not necessarily a wall... I think we need to remember that our lives were spent in a little bubble that doesn't necessarily extend to certain places.
ReplyDeleteIt's really strange how some areas can be so diverse and have people from all over the place and some cities are thrown off guard when a foreigner comes in.
I'm glad activities like these are happening though to expose people, at the very least, to accepting minorities which they have grown up with. I didn't expect racism to be an issue on the Hate Wall but apparently it's a big one here.. baby steps ;)
Random side response: I thought blogspot was the cool place to be. Sad face.
